The Belcaro Park home that was at the center of a debate about Denver’s historical preservation policy was destroyed Monday with no protests or delay, said property owner Gary Yourtz.
The demolition was disputed by preservationists who said the home was a classic mid-century modern structure meriting historical designation.
But Yourtz had already purchased the home with intentions to raze it and rebuild. He spent more than $20,000 fighting the “hostile designation,” leading Denver City Council members to consider changing the ordinance.
