More than 40 dogs were removed from a residence in Bent County on Wednesday night after an animal-cruelty complaint.
The Bent County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado Humane Society and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals removed 42 dogs that were living in unhealthy conditions, according to a Humane Society news release.
Most of the dogs were small breeds such as Chihuahuas, dachshunds, terriers and Pekinese mixes.
The owner cooperated with the Humane Society and turned the dogs over. No charges had been filed.
Several dogs that were not released by the owner will remain at the residence. Colorado Humane Society investigators will continue to monitor the situation. The dogs may be available for adoption at the Denver Dumb Friends League later this week.
