The Arizona trucker charged with several felonies in a crime spree in southwest Greeley last month has retained a private attorney from Denver in his case.

Scott Walker, 47, appeared this morning in Weld District Court via video, where Seth Hardy, of the Law Offices of Rodger Daley in Denver, sought a preliminary hearing in the case.

Walker was arrested without incident after a 40-minute spree throughout Greeley, which began after he stopped his truck in the middle of traffic on Dec. 28 after dropping off a load of goods at PetSmart, 2833 35th Ave. Witnesses said he waved his gun at travelers and tried to hijack other cars before hijacking a work utility vehicle at a nearby apartment complex.

Police say he drove to a home, where he rammed the iron gate and walked into the home. After talking a few minutes with the homeowner, police say, he shot at a Weld County sheriff commander and then rammed the truck into a metal fence before fleeing on foot. He gave up moments later.
