SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Former eBay chief executive Meg Whitman is resurfacing after months of silence following her loss in the California gubernatorial race.
Whitman was one of five people named to the board of Hewlett-Packard Co. on Thursday. Whitman spent $144 million from her personal fortune in what became the most expensive statewide political race.
Hewlett-Packard Co. is trying to put a fresh face on its scandal-scarred board in an extreme leadership makeover to dampen shareholder anger over the handling of chief executive Mark Hurd’s ouster six months ago.
