DETROIT — A judge on Tuesday set an Oct. 4 trial date for a Nigerian man charged with trying to blow up an airliner on Christmas Day 2009 using a bomb hidden in his underwear.
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, acting as his own lawyer, had asked for a 2012 date.
Abdulmutallab is charged in trying to bomb a flight with 281 passengers and 11 crew members.
