A Fort Carson soldier was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of posing as a police officer and fondling a woman during a bogus traffic stop in Castle Rock.
Spc. William Lawler, 21, is assigned to the 759th Military Police Battalion, Fort Carson spokesman Randy Tisor said.
Lawler was arrested in Colorado Springs, two months after the woman was allegedly accosted on Nov. 24.
According to Castle Rock police, a man in a tan Ford Crown Victoria with the words “Public Works” printed on the side put on red and blue emergency lights and followed the victim until she pulled over.
The Directorate of Public Works oversees various operations at Fort Carson.
The man identified himself as Sergeant Schnider with Public Works and asked her to provide a driver’s license, registration and proof of insurance, police said in a news release.
The police impersonator made the woman stand against her vehicle and frisked her.
He drove away after telling the woman she was being given a warning instead of a traffic ticket.
