An Evergreen home caught fire today after an extension cord sparked a blaze in an adjacent field.
Evergreen firefighters responded to a call at 22756 Meadow View Rd at 11:30 a.m., according to Chief Garry DeJong.
The fire started outside the home when an old extension cord shorted out. The cord ran from the home to a nearby horse barn, where the power was used to keep the horses’ water from freezing. The initial fire burned a 40-by-40-foot plot of land before spreading to the exterior of the home.
The fire spread into a small attic before firefighters could put it out, which took about 20 minutes.
No one was home when the fire started, and the occupants are expected to be able to stay there tonigh.
