The University of Colorado has cancelled its study-abroad program at the American University in Cairo because of safety concerns amid political unrest in Egypt, Provost Russell Moore announced today.

Four students had registered for the spring semester, but hadn’t yet started classes in Cairo, program director Mary Dando said. They were notified Monday of the decision to suspend the program, she said.

Moore said CU was following recommendations from the U.S. State Department and had consulted with other sources, including other universities. Dando said CU is also investigating alternate locations abroad for students.
