Golden-based PharmaJet has received a grant from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to develop needle-free injection devices for vaccines.

The technology would allow accurate vaccine delivery into the layers of skin, rather than into muscle, and could provide protection from disease with less vaccine and less pain.

Intradermal delivery has the potential to reduce the amount of vaccine required by as much as 80 percent, leading to cost savings and expanded coverage for vaccines that are in limited supply.
