Halliburton is rapidly expanding its Fort Lupton footprint, including fast-track plans for a $20 million facility that will support about 700 employees — 300 more than currently — within a couple years, according to a Fort Lupton official.

Officials are pleased about the job growth, but they also have an eye toward branch-off industries that may link into the new water-sewer line for which Halliburton is fronting the cost.

Halliburton, which is drilling wells in the Niobrara shale formation in northeastern Colorado, currently employs about 400 workers at its southeast Fort Lupton facility, Fort Lupton Mayor Tommy Holton said. As recently as October, he said, the company had about 175 workers at the facility.
