CHICAGO — Boeing said Thursday that it had dropped an order for 32 of the best-selling 737 model, below, from its backlog, but also added contracts for 10 more of the planes. The cancellation is the first of the year and comes as the company boosts production of the aircraft alongside its wide-body 777.

Boeing revealed the cancellation — believed to come from a single customer — in its weekly order update for the week through Feb. 1. It didn’t reveal the identity of the order for 10 737s.

Only a handful of airlines and leasing companies have outstanding orders for 32 or more 737s, including American, Flydubai and the leasing arm of Royal Bank of Scotland Group. Dow Jones Newswires; Getty Images file photo
