Car and truck sales in Colorado rose by 6.5 percent last year while the number of used-car registrations dropped by 6.8 percent for the same period, the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association announced Thursday.
It’s the first increase in new-car registrations — how sales are tracked — in Colorado since 2005, the association said. While encouraging, sales still lag from 2001 when the number topped 204,000 cars and trucks, compared with 105,747 in 2009 and 112,665 last year. Registrations of Korean-made new cars increased by 16.8 percent while Detroit- based makers saw only a 3.6 percent jump in 2010.
