A 35-year-old man from Boulder was killed today when he rode his snowboard into a tree at Eldora Mountain Resort near Nederland.

His name was not released pending notifification of family, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Department said.

The man was snowboarding with four friends in a closed area within the resort’s bounds at about 1:30 p.m. when he was reported to hit a tree, the department said in a statement.

The Boulder Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
