BANGKOK — The officially disbanded but defiant party of Myanmar’s leading dissident, Aung San Suu Kyi, appeared to be preparing to reaffirm its support for the continuation of Western sanctions against the country, a top party official said Monday.

Tin Oo, the vice chairman of the party, the National League for Democracy, told the Reuters news agency in Yangon that the trade embargo and other economic sanctions “affect only the leaders of the ruling regime and their close business associates, not the majority of the people.”
