An electrical transformer that exploded near Interstate 25 and Garden of the Gods Road has caused a fire and a small power outage in the area.
The transformer blew about 9:15 a.m. at 505 Popes Bluff Trail. The explosion caused a small fire on the outside of a structure. The fire has been contained.
Power is out for about 400 Colorado Springs Utilities customers, and traffic lights are not working in the area, according to a utilities spokesman and Colorado Springs Police.
Utilities estimates it will take 1-2 hours to restore power.
