A.J. Hau put the Colorado Eagles on the scoreboard first Tuesday night in Moline, Ill., connecting off passes from Adam Chorneyko and Aaron Schneekloth with 8:09 gone in the first period, but Quad City scored 29 seconds later and went on to win the Central Hockey League game 4-1.
Joe Blaznek scored on a power play and Mike McLean scored unassisted to give the Mallards a 3-1 lead in the second period. The Eagles’ Alex Penner picked up four penalties in the last three seconds of the game, with three fighting-related penalties, including a game misconduct.
WCHA salutes DU’s Shore.
University of Denver freshman forward Nick Shore was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s rookie of the week after scoring two goals for the No. 4-ranked Pioneers (17-6-5, 13-4-3 WCHA) in their 5-3 win Saturday over archrival Colorado College.
Shore had an assist in the Pioneers’ 3-2 loss to the Tigers on Friday.
