An RTD bus driver stopped mid-route to help put out a car fire this morning.
At 6:45 a.m. the driver of a RTD express bus pulled over on U.S. Highway 36 near Federal Boulevard and used his fire extinguisher to douse a blaze in the front of the car, according to RTD spokeswoman Daria Serna.
The bus driver turned on his flashers to make sure commuters would not hit the bus or the stranded car.
Once the fire was out and the driver felt it was safe, he got back on his bus and back on route, Serna said.
The bus was pulled in as an extra to help accommodate the heavy flow of riders this morning. The driver was on the 86X express route that runs a loop from Westminister to Union Station and 16th Street Mall in Denver.
