Highlands Ranch teams soaring:
Sweeps? Big-school basketball has seen it twice. ThunderRidge won the Class 5A boys and girls championships in the 2002-03 season. They were the heady days of Jesse Nading and the Waner sisters, Abby and Emily. Regis Jesuit also did it in 2008-09.
However, as we near the end of the regular season, Highlands Ranch sits atop both genders in The Denver Post/9News 5A polls, and both teams are fair bets to enter the postseason brackets as top seeds.
Consider the contrast. The Falcons’ boys are working on their first league title and are generally devoid of any significant big-school accomplishment. But the Highlands Ranch girls are pushing for their seventh title since 2000.
