A school bus broke down in the middle of I-70 this morning, forcing children to swap buses during the hectic commute.

Just after 7 a.m., a Denver Public Schools bus with students on board broke down in the center lane of westbound I-70 near Chambers Road, according to DPS spokeswoman Kristy Armstrong.

Temperatures were in single digits at the time.

A tow truck was called to the scene and moved the bus to the road’s right-hand shoulder. DPS sent a “rescue” school bus and students transferred buses alongside the busy roadway.

All the students were delivered safely to Morey Middle School on East 14th Avenue. The bus held up traffic on I-70 for about 20 minutes, Armstrong sad.
