A 24-year-old Louisville man who ran a single mother of two off the road, killing her, will be sentenced in March after pleading guilty to vehicular homicide and child abuse.
Corey Lee Smith, who originally faced 10 counts in connection with the Sept. 8 crash on Louisville’s Via Appia Way, could face up to 12 years in prison for the vehicular homicide charge and up to one year in jail for the child abuse charge when he’s sentenced March 2.
Smith was arrested after the crash that killed Jennefer Treasure, 22, of Louisville, the mother of one of his children.
Treasure was driving north on Via Appia just south of South Boulder Road with Smith’s two small children in the car, one of whom was her child and one of whom was not. Smith pulled alongside her and veered into her path, according to police. That caused Treasure to run off the road and roll her car 2 ½ times, police reported.
