
If you’ve got rosacea or acne, pay attention to daily skin care, says the American Academy of Dermatology, which held its annual meeting last week. Dermatologist Diane S. Benson of Weill Medical College at Cornell University gave these tips:
• Cleanse gently, don’t scrub, and avoid harsh cleansers, alkaline bar soaps and alcohol-based products, as they can worsen irritated skin. Gently wash with a non- irritating, pH-balanced cleanser.
• When it comes to moisturizing, those with acne should use a light, oil-free product. Those with rosacea should use a product containing lipids, such as ceramides, as well as the humectants glycerin and hyaluronic acid, which help hold moisture in.
• Sunscreen that protects the skin from UVA and UVB light should be used daily. Look for one with microfine zinc oxide. Those with acne or oily skin should try one in a spray or gel-based formula. More information at
