COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The Air Force is formally starting construction on a new operations building for its C-130 squadrons.

A groundbreaking ceremony is planned Monday on the $5.6 million, 12,500-square-foot building. It’s expected to be completed in early 2012.

It will serve the active-duty 52nd Airlift Squadron and the reserve 731st Airlift Squadron.

The two components work together and share aircraft under a program call Total Force Integration.

The active-duty component arrived at Peterson in October of 2009. Since then, it has used temporary facilities and shared office space with the reserve squadron.
