AURORA — The City Council moved forward with plans Monday to redevelop about an eight-block area of North Havana Street that has become blighted over the years.
Acting as the city’s Urban Renewal Authority — a move that creates a special taxing district for infrastructure funding — the council approved the plan to turn the corridor bounded by East Sixth Avenue on the north and East Bayaud Avenue to the south into a mix of residential and business.
The area also includes the blighted Fan Fare site, a longtime eyesore.
Property owners in the affected area are on board with the plan, council members said, although a developer has not signed on yet. Another public hearing and a final council vote are necessary for passage.
