What is a ? Itap a point in time when an artist — big, small, local, national — swings through the Reverb studios in Colorado to hang out for an afternoon and record a few exclusive songs for you, our loyal readers.

We guarantee that these tracks are specifically chosen by the artist and put to tape in a live session. A Mile Marker, in short, is a moment, however beautiful or flawed that moment might be. And hey, we’re one mile above sea level, so anything can happen.

When Brooklyn’s came through last fall, we had a few bumps in the recording process. Front man Steve Schlitz’s amp was loud. Really loud. So loud that it drowned out almost every other instrument and voice in the modest studio space. The band, with plenty of time to kill before their show with at the that night, had no problem hanging around the studio for most of the afternoon and running through the songs more than once. Bryan, our engineer, tightened up the resonating, cracked kick drum and was happy to let the group hang out and jam until early evening in his humble abode.
