POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — A police officer died hours after being shot in the head during a shootout that killed a woman and the gunman near a train station in New York’s Hudson Valley. Three other officers were hurt.
Poughkeepsie Police Chief Ron Knapp announced that the 44-year-old officer died Friday night. The 18-year veteran’s name was withheld pending notification of his relatives.
Police say the gunman shot a woman to death in a car and was himself fatally shot later during the exchange of gunfire Friday.
