A 3-year-old Fort Lupton boy has died after falling into a golf course pond just before 10 a.m. today, police said.

Fort Lupton Police Chief Ken Poncelow said the boy’s grandmother was babysitting the child when the boy wandered out the back door of the home and fell into a pond on the course at Coyote Creek Golf Club. The pond is about 50 yards from the boy’s home, Poncelow said.

The boy was airlifted to Children’s Medical Center, but did not survive. Authorities have not released his name. Poncelow said the incident is under further investigation, but it is unlikely any criminal charges will be filed.
