A 38-year-old man was killed in an early-morning collision today after he allegedly ran a red light and was struck by an Xcel bucket truck.
Benjamin Rutledge was rushed to a hospital following the 2:15 a.m. accident and was later pronounced dead, said Lt. Chuck DeShazer, spokesman for the Aurora Police Department.
Greg Adams, 51, was driving the Xcel truck south on Chambers and was making a left turn onto Mexico when his truck hit Rutledge’s Mitsubishi Lancer while it was going north on Chambers.
Adams and a witness said Adams had a green turn arrow.
Rutledge was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. He likely would have survived had he been wearing a seat belt, DeShazer said.
The accident is under investigation.
