One of two men suspected of stealing two vehicles at gunpoint on the Western Slope is in custody tonight, but a second man, considered armed and dangerous, is still at large, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.
He is described as in his 20s, Latino and wearing dark clothing, said Heather Benjamin, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Department.
Police did not release the name of the man in custody.
The two are suspected of stealing two vehicles in Fruita, a truck at a recreation center and a sport-utility vehicle at a convenience store, at about 4 p.m., Benjamin said.
After a chase involving Fruita police, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department and the Colorado State Patrol, the two men allegedly ditched the truck in the Mack community and both got into the SUV.
After a search and a phone warning to nearby residents, one of the men was arrested at about 8 p.m., Benjamin said.
She said anyone who has information should call 911.
