A 15-year-old is facing felony arson charges in a fire in the garden department of a Colorado Springs Wal-Mart Supercenter, authorities said today.
The fire was quickly doused by the store’s sprinkler system. The teen was not named, because of his age. He is charged with first-degree arson and fourth-degree arson and is being held in a juvenile detention center, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
The small fire was reported at about 4 p.m. Monday at the store at 5550 E. Woodmen Road. The store reopened Tuesday.
No one was injured, but more than 40 firefighters responded to the call, including four engine companies.
There was no structural damage to the building, and Wal-Mart is still assessing the value of damaged merchandise in the area of the fire and lost business, according to the fire department.
