When we first sat around conceptualizing the series, we knew what we wanted: Rising bands with unique instrumentation in an intimate space. embodied this aesthetic when they came through Uneven Studio in December.
The Portland-based band creates a lot of sound for a simple four-piece, as evidenced in the free downloads above. Listen as lead singer Justin Ringle’s voice blows easily over the deep cello and wandering banjo lines. The band played four songs in a tight circle with nothing but head nods, foot stomps and general intuition guiding the way. Grab a set of headphones if you got ’em — those tinny laptop speakers won’t do justice to the sweeping, layered sounds.
