An early-morning blaze destroyed a duplex at 18924 E. 16th Place in Aurora, authorities say.

Residents of the duplex escaped without injury before firefighters arrived, according to an Aurora Fire Department news release.

Aurora firefighters were called about the fire at 6:22 a.m. By the time they arrived heavy smoke and flames were coming out of the roof.

The duplex received heavy smoke and fire damage throughout and caused about $300,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
