Aspen/Snowmass is offering skiers and snowboarders an opportunity to feel the “Power of Four” for themselves when the four- mountain resort debuts a new ski mountaineering race Saturday.
Starting in Snowmass at 7:15 a.m., skiers and split-boarders will travel 24 miles and climb more than 10,000 vertical feet as they race across all four ski areas — Snowmass, Buttermilk, Aspen Highlands and Aspen Mountain. There will also be a half-race ending at Buttermilk. Alpine touring, telemark or split snowboard gear is required.
The race is part of a larger endurance series that includes a mountain bike race across the four mountains on Aug. 28.
Do it: Race categories include men, women, vets and mixed teams. Visit or call 970-925-1220 for registration ($170 per team) and info. Volunteers for both events are needed. Interested in helping? Contact Maria Hidalgo at mhildalgo@aspensnowmass.com.
