WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Cathedral bells tolled nationwide today as the country remembered victims of a massive earthquake that devastated Christchurch a week ago.
Police said the death toll from the magnitude-6.3 quake could reach about 240, just 16 fewer than New Zealand’s worst earthquake in the North Island city of Napier on Feb. 3, 1931.
