WASHINGTON — Consumer Reports named Japanese automakers Honda, Subaru and Toyota as the best all- around carmakers for the third straight year. And Ford made the largest year-to-year gain in its review.

The ratings are based on the magazine’s average road tests and predicted-reliability scores. Honda has the best overall score of 74 out of 100 points, followed by Subaru (73) and Toyota (71). Ford is fifth, and its Mustang is the top sport-car pick.

Chrysler had the worst ranking among the carmakers with 43 points, with Mercedes-Benz, BMW and General Motors also near the bottom. The Associated Press; Bloomberg News photo
