The Five Points Business District is attempting to create new partnerships between area businesses and the six Denver Public Schools in the neighborhood.
Business owners in Five Points are being invited to join the partnership this week.
“Creating partnerships between our business community and our schools to drive student achievement is not only a great community service but it makes economic sense,” Ken Santistevan, director of strategic business and community initiatives for DPS said in a media release.
The Five Points School Partners Program will match businesses with nearby public schools to help provide anything from school supplies to technical assistance or advice on fundraising.
Five Points Business District executive director Wil Alston said the partnership is an opportunity for business owners to invest in their future workforce.
The six schools within the business district’s boundaries that will participate in the partnership are Cole Arts and Science Academy, Gilpin Montessori Public School, Manual High School, Polaris at Ebert, Whittier K-8 and Wyatt-Edison Charter School.
DPS already has a school partners program, headed up by Santistevan, which presently oversees more than 170 partnerships between businesses and DPS schools.
