Denver police have arrested a 17- year-old boy suspected of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl during school Friday at John F. Kennedy High.
Both are students at the school, said Denver Public Schools spokesman Mike Vaughn.
A decision on whether to charge the boy will be made by the end of the week and won’t be announced before Friday, said Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the Denver district attorney’s office. The boy is in custody at the Gilliam Youth Services Center.
“An allegation was made on February 25th that this juvenile forcibly led a 14-year-old girl to an area of John F. Kennedy High School and sexually assaulted her,” Kimbrough said in a release.
School officials are cooperating in the investigation and will send a letter to all parents at the school informing them of the incident, Vaughn said.
“The letter will be ready to go home with the kids tomorrow,” he said Tuesday. “We wanted to make sure we had all the most up-to-date information on what the investigation was about and whether charges have been filed yet,” Vaughn said.
Police have turned the case over to the Denver DA’s office, and the boy has made an initial appearance in court as a juvenile. Probable cause has been found to hold him on allegations of second-degree kidnapping and sexual assault.
The incident occurred about 11:30 a.m. Friday.
