PHOENIX — Cubs right-hander Carlos Silva was pulled early from Wednesday’s game against the Brewers for having words with teammate Aramis Ramirez after Chicago committed three errors in Milwaukee’s six-run first inning.

Silva, who also gave up two home runs in the inning, apparently was escorted to the clubhouse by a coach.

Ramirez, shortstop Starlin Castro and catcher Koyie Hill were charged with errors. Ramirez, a third baseman, brushed off the incident as “part of the game.”

“That happens everywhere,” he said. “Everything is not going to be (perfect). You’re going to have ups and downs. It’s a long season. Stuff like that is going to happen.”

Kershaw signs one-year deal

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Dodgers signed pitcher Clayton Kershaw to a one-year deal worth $500,000.

The left-hander, who has been named the opening day starter against the Giants on March 31, earned $440,000 last season, when he went 13-10 with a 2.91 ERA.

Footnotes.

The Cardinals expect Chris Carpenter to miss at least one spring start even though the right-hander’s strained left hamstring is feeling better.

• Tigers pitcher Joel Zumaya said he will miss “a few more days” as he recovers from tearing scar tissue in his surgically repaired right elbow.

• Athletics outfielder Coco Crisp was arrested in Scottsdale, Ariz., on suspicion of drunk driving, the third major- league player to be charged with DUI this spring.

• The Indians traded left- hander Aaron Laffey to the Mariners for minor-league infielder Matt Lawson.
