ASPEN, Colo.—Authorities say a tow truck collided with a public bus near Aspen, sending 22 people to hospitals.
The crash happened Friday morning on the road between Aspen and Snowmass Village.
There were conflicting initial reports of how many people were injured, but the Colorado State Patrol said Friday evening that two tow truck passengers and 20 of the 53 passengers on the bus were taken to hospitals.
Pitkin County sheriff’s spokesman Alex Burchetta says injuries included broken bones and scrapes.
Troopers say the flatbed tow truck allegedly had run a red light.
Burchetta says authorities received reports of snow stacking up in the hoods of traffic lights, obscuring the signals in the area before the accident.
The tow truck driver has been cited with careless driving causing injury.
