On Saturday, Denver International Airport will begin a 14-month train system construction project that will affect travel during limited hours.
Every Sunday and Monday between 1 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., all passengers traveling from the concourses to the terminal will be directed to exit the train at Concourse A and continue to the terminal via the Concourse A bridge walkway.
Passengers departing the terminal for the concourses will be not be affected.
Signage and public address announcements on Concourse A will direct passengers to take the walkway to get to the terminal, baggage claim and ground transportation.
Those waiting to meet arriving passengers will be directed to the Concourse A bridge walkway.
DIA officials said the train service interruptions should be minimal since the airport doesn’t typically see a large number of arrivals or departures overnight.
The construction project is part of a planned capacity expansion of the train system.
Construction is expected to be completed in May 2012 and will allow for a 20 percent increase in the number of travelers the trains can carry each hour.
DIA’s train system currently can accommodate six four-car trains. When construction is completed, the airport will be able to operate eight four-car trains.
