An area of Park Meadows Mall has been reopened, a mall spokesperson said.
Authorities were investigating a suspicious package that was found at the mall today, but have determined it is not a danger.
Michelle Kivela, a spokeswoman for Lone Tree Police said the suspicious item turned out to be a regular backpack.
“The reason it was treated as suspicious was because it was behind a trashcan near a back hallway, and it was really heavy and solid,” Kivela said.
Douglas County bomb squad X-rayed the backpack and determined it was safe.
Stephanie Jackson, director of field marketing for the mall, said a small part of the shopping center was closed off during the investigation, but the rest of the mall remained open.
“We always try to go the extra mile just to make sure we’re safe,” Jackson said.
