JAKARTA, Indonesia — A powerful earthquake struck waters off the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific today. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and no tsunami was expected. The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.6-magnitude quake struck 19 miles beneath the ocean floor, 80 miles west of Kira Kira island.
