Attendance tallies for 2010 were the second highest in the Denver Zoo’s history, officials said Monday.
Exactly 1,967,839 people visited the zoo or participated in outreach programs last year. In 1995, the zoo set an attendance record with 1,984,097 visitors or outreach participants.
“We are fortunate to be a family favorite that continues to gain popularity,” said Craig Piper, Denver Zoo president and chief executive, in a news release.
Last June, the zoo set a record for household memberships, with 64,040 households choosing to be members of the zoo. The zoo also set an attendance record for the Zoo Lights event during the 2010 holidays, with 185,655 visitors.
