A University of Colorado music student is in the Boulder County Jail today after being accused of jumping out of the bushes on University Hill early Sunday morning and attacking two women.
The women were walking home from the Walrus Saloon, 1911 11th St., around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when a man allegedly — whom police identify as Galen Bercaw, 23 — emerged from the bushes near Arapahoe Avenue and Lincoln Place, grabbed one of the women’s purses and threw her to the ground, Boulder police spokeswoman Kim Kobel said.
As the suspect was choking the woman, four men heard the screams for help and came to their aid, Kobel said. They were able to subdue the man until police arrived, according to Kobel.
Bercaw was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault, attempted robbery and resisting arrest.
