CRAIG — Being a governor’s a tough job, just ask John Hickenlooper, who needed five stitches to sew up his head after a mishap tonight on the way to giving a speech.
Hickenlooper had just left a restaurant after meeting with local business people and was headed to the Holiday Inn where he was the keynote speaker at an event.
“As he was getting into the back seat of an unmarked state patrol car, he hit his head on the metal shotgun rack in the back seat,” said spokesman Eric Brown. “It hurt and he put his hand up and realized it was covered with blood.”
Brown said the trooper, Craig Mayor Don Jones and the governor went to the local hospital to get stitched up. Hickenlooper was scheduled to arrive at the Holiday Inn at 7:10 and made it by 7:14 p.m., Brown said.
“His jokes are a a little off, but I don’t know if that’s because of the head wound or not,” Brown joked.
Hickenlooper’s predecessor, Bill Ritter, fell off his bicycle and broke some ribs.
