DENVER—Shawn Ostrow had two goals and David Makowski two assists as Denver came from behind to beat Minnesota State 4-2 in the opening game of a best-of-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series on Friday night.
Ostrow scored the go-ahead goal with 2:25 remaining and added an empty-netter in the final minute for the second-seeded Pioneers (22-10-5), who overcame a 2-0 deficit going into the third period. Kyle Ostrow and Beau Bennett also found the net.
Denver can clinch a berth in the WCHA Final Five with a win on Saturday.
Zach Lehrke and Kurt Davis scored first-period goals for the No. 11-seeded Mustangs (14-17-6).
Sam Brittain made 22 saves for the Pioneers, and Phil Cook made 23 stops for Minnesota State.
