A gray Nissan coupe traveling west on Interstate 76 veered off the right side of the highway near Huron Street in Adams County about 6:20 p.m. Saturday and crashed into several filled propane tanks that were stored at a gas company, causing an explosion, authorities said.
I-76 was closed eastbound for about an hour, and westbound lanes were closed for about three hours while the fire was extinguished.
The driver of the Nissan, Justin Kardas, 21, of Denver, was transported to St. Anthony North Hospital with serious injuries, said Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid.
The crash remains under investigation, and a cause hadn’t been determined.
The propane tanks were stored at Metro Gas, 790 W. 64th Ave.
