Established novelists Hilary Mantel and Gerad Woodward have been shortlisted with four other writers for a British short story prize.
The nominees for The Sunday Times EFG Private Bank Short Story Award also include American Anthony Doerr, Chinese-American Yiyun Li, and Britons Will Cohu and Roshi Fernando.
The award is worth $48,245 and is billed as the most-valuable prize for short stories in the world. The winner will be announced April 8.
