A boy thought to be 12 or 13 years old was hit in a crosswalk by a driver at South Federal Boulevard and West Evans Avenue on Sunday afternoon.
The boy’s name was not released Sunday. He was in serious but stable condition at Denver Health Medical Center with head and leg injuries.
He is expected to survive, said Denver police Lt. Matt Murray.
Jesse Rincon, 73, drove away, police said, but was stopped by three vehicles about two blocks away.
Public records show Rincon lives about seven blocks from where the boy was hit.
He will be charged with felony hit and run, Murray said.
Court records show that in March 2009, Rincon pleaded guilty to driving illegally with a restricted license in exchange for other traffic charges being dismissed by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. He paid a $500 fine.
Murray praised the motorists who stopped the driver, saying that too often people turn a blind eye to crime, according to 7News.
