Residents of Green Valley Ranch celebrated the opening of an $11.4 million library last week.
City officials cut the ribbon Saturday at the new facility, at 4856 Andes Court in northeast Denver.
The Green Valley Ranch library features a lounge and fireplace, 50 public computers and a catalog of more than 100,000 items.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be opening this new library branch in such a wonderful community like Green Valley Ranch,” said librarian Shirley Amore.
The 26,000-square-foot library, which opened its doors Thursday, was designed to incorporate elements from the surrounding landscape, including nearby Denver International Airport.
Visitors will see an airplane cockpit provided by United Airlines’ training facility, an aerodynamic roof form and aircraft-themed furniture, said Denver Public Library spokeswoman Jen Morris.
The Green Valley Ranch library is the first of three new branches the district is building with funds from the Better Denver Bond Program, approved by voters in 2007.
Officials will break ground soon on a library in the Stapleton community, followed by another new facility in west Denver.
Budget cuts will limit the Green Valley Ranch library’s schedule to 32 hours a week. The branch is closed Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
