A 9-year-old boy in Custer County shot himself in the head and died this afternoon, said Sheriff Fred Jobe.
The cause of the shooting is under investigation, but could have been accidental, Jobe said.
The boy was in the basement of his Sliver Cliff home when his parents heard a pop and commotion, then found him and the 22-caliber rifle. He was airlifted to St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center in Pueblo, where he died at 3:40 p.m., Jobe said.
